Expressionist Flowers Painting
We learned about the Expressionist movement, which is all about unrealistic and bright colors. You take a realistic image and exaggerate it. In this painting, we drew flowers of all kinds and colors. By incorporating underpainting and overpainting techniques, as well as value and contouring, we created a realistic flower with unrealistic colors. Underpainting is when you paint layers of paint on top of the canvas and let the colors show through (in this case, the yellow and orange were all underpainting). Then, you use overpainting which is painting paint over the layers of underpainting (in this case, the red and purples were overpainting). Finally, we went through the painting with white to highlight the lighter parts of the flower, as well as using yellow to paint pollen.
